This Tuesday, the 19th of April the Red Tent Campaign will be holding its second Day of Action across Canada. 6 months from the first Day of Action which saw one hundred tents marched from Parliament Hill to the Human Rights Monument the Campaign is taking to the streets once again to release the answers of three questions given to the federal ministers responsible for housing. Those questions are:

1. Do you support the adoption of a fully-funded national housing strategy which respects provincial jurisdiction?

Wednesday, the House of Commons debated Bill C-304, for a federal housing strategy, in Parliament.  The debate was quite passionate at times and included speeches from Libby Davies, NDP MP for Vancouver East, Michael Savage, Liberal MP for Dartmouth- Cole Harbour, Peter Julian, NDP MP for Burnaby- New Westminster, and Christian Ouellet, Bloc MP for Brome- Missisquoi. 

The list of speakers for the press conference on the morning of October 19th at Parliament has been set. The Red Tent Campaign is proud to announce the following speakers:

Important Update!

With less than a week to go until the Canada Day of Action there has been a slight change in the itinerary for the Ottawa action on the morning of October 19th.  The Action will still begin with a press conference at Parliament at 9:30 a.m. EST., and proceed to the lawns of parliament for speakers and the opening of tents, but the march to the Prime Minister's residence at 24 Sussex Drive has been changed to a march to the Human Rights Monument at the corner of Elgin and Lisgar Streets near City Hall in Ottawa.

With less than three weeks left until the Canada Day of Action on October 19^th, preparations are ramping-up across Canada from Victoria to St. John’s.  The main action will take place on the lawns of Parliament the morning of Tuesday, October 19^th and will culminate in a march to the Prime Minister's Residence .  As well, actions in solidarity are being planned in a number of Canadian cities, including Victoria, Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Halifax, Moncton and St.

After a long summer vacation, Members of Parliament have headed back to work for the Fall Session of Parliament.  While the long-gun registry is the hot-button issue this week, Bill C-304, the Private members’ bill drafted by Vancouver- East NDP MP Libby Davies, is slated for a third reading debate in Parliament on October 20^th.  However, homelessness and a lack of affordable housing don’t even seem to be on the House of Commons’ radar.  In a
